Boolean Searching

There’s something about learning a funny technological word that brings out the geek in everyone! Today’s subject is one that will help everyone work more efficiently while searching on the Internet. It’s called “Boolean”.

image

Say you’re looking for a specific thing on the web, but every time you search it seems as though there are too many results, and to go through all of them would take hours! Boolean operators can streamline this process; giving you a more refined search. Here are a few to try out:

Quotes:
Yes, putting quotes around your search terms looks for the words or phrase exactly as typed. If you put in “Granola Bars” the sites returned will have only those words in their exact order. This is my favorite one to use when I’m looking for a specific file or subject and want to skip all the browsing around.

And:
The operator “and” is used to combine search terms so that information is only retrieved if all terms occur in the same document. So if you’re looking for “Doctors and Lawyers”, type in that phrase, and what will be returned are documents with both keywords in them.

Not:
“Not” prevents retrieval of documents in which specified terms occur together. This operator is also good to use when a keyword has multiple meanings. So the search “milk not butter” will find documents where “milk” occurs but “butter” doesn’t.

Or:
“Or” combines keywords so the retrieved documents contain any or all of the keywords. Most search engines don’t need this though, as they assume this as the operator being used already.

Till’ next time!

You've Seen LED Flashlights...You've Seen Worklights...

But Have You EVER Seen a Combination of BOTH?

Black & Decker Brings You a 100% Groundbreaking New Light!

Super Bright 22 Lumen LED...

With Red AND Green LED Options For NIGHT VISION!!

It's a Technological Breakthrough That's TOUGH Enough for ANY JOB!

Brilliant Clamp-on Design Makes it Hands Free for ULTRA CONVENIENCE!

It Even Swivels a FULL 180 Degrees!

RUGGED! POWERFUL! DEPENDABLE! AWESOME!

It's the Flashlight Designed for the Great Outdoors (or Indoors!)

End Your Lighting Troubles NOW!

So you're working on a project at home and need bright light for a precise job. You've got a lantern, but it gives off a weak yellow light that's pretty much useless. You've got a great LED flashlight, but nowhere to put it! You can stick the end of the flashlight in your mouth...which is disgusting. And if it's any bigger than a pocket flashlight, I sure hope your jaws can unhinge...

Maybe you're camping and trying to get your tent set up in the dark, or are trying to search around for firewood...maybe you're just at home and the power has gone out. How many times a month does a flashlight come in handy for you? Probably TONS, right?

Ready for a GROUNDBREAKING new flashlight design? One that puts the user first - that offers several USEFUL options in one POWERFUL little package? CHECK IT OUT!

Super Bright, 22 Lumen Main LED Light
Red LED Option for Night Vision!
Green LED Option for Distance AND Non-Obtrustive Night Vision!
Super Strong Clamp for MAXIMUM Convenience
Shock Resistance for RUGGED DURABILITY!

We've Got What You're Looking For - AND IT CLAMPS AND SWIVELS!

OK, so there's a several features that make this the absolute COOLEST and MOST USEFUL flashlight we've gotten our hands on. They're all so awesome that it's hard to find the right place to start. So let's just begin with the basics: The CLAMP and SWIVEL options!

The Clamp - it features a STRONG clamp that allows you to clamp onto anything you need! How useful is this? Well...how often do you find yourself in need of a flashlight when working on a DIY home project? Do you EVER have a convenient spot to set that cylindrical flashlight so it's shining where you need it without it rolling around?

The Swivel - So you've got your awesome new light clamped where you need it...but it's just not the right angle. NOT A PROBLEM! Grab the head - you'll notice that it swivels up to a FULL 180 degrees! Now you can hit that angle with ZERO problems!

Clip in your garage for working on the car! Or for extra safety! ANYTHING! ENOUGH SAID!

A Flashlight With Night Vision? YES! RED and GREEN LED!

Speaking of camping...or just being around the house when it's dark...wouldn't it be useful to be able to switch that BRIGHT white LED light to a red OR green light that gives you night vision without waking everyone up? This ILLUMINATES WITHOUT BURNING UP YOUR EYES!

How's it Work?

Without being too scientific, your eyes are made up of rods and cones. These reflect light and shape how you see things. If you stare at a bright white light and then look away, or turn off the light, what are you left with? A big red after-image burning in your retina, right?

WELL NOT WITH GREEN OR RED LED LIGHTS!

This is especially useful when you're working on a project that requires precision. It's gonna be a WHOLE LOT EASIER when you're not blind, right?

You can even use it for night reading without disturbing your husband or wife! Really - any job you have to do that's outdoors can be done without blinding yourself with a GREEN or RED LED!

How awesome is that? Pretty unique, we'd say. As you know, we're all about cool flashlights at Worldstart - and this one takes the cake!

No Matter What You're Doing in the Dark - You'll See EVERYTHING!

It's not often seen except for on tactical, military styled flashlights - but Black & Decker have made it available to everyone!

Green and Red LED light is non-obtrusive.So if you're using this light in the dark, you won't be blinded by the after-image!We were shocked by how powerful yet subdued both the green and red LED was.You will be too!

Need Rugged? No Problem!

What else would you expect from a company that's been around since 1910? Something dainty that won't last? YEAH, RIGHT! This beastly light is meant for workin,' and knows how to take a beating! Before hitting the market, this baby has been tested and found to be IMPACT RESISTANT from falls up to 5 feet! Anything besides a Black & Decker...would shatter!

Convinced Yet?

This light is POWERFUL, POCKET SIZED and FULL OF OPTIONS! It makes the perfect compliment to your travel bag, purse, glove box, camping/hunting gear...you name it! It's small enough to fit in your pocket and bright enough to light up your garage! And don't forget the options for the GREEN AND RED LED LIGHTS!

It's like a full-on tactical/work light that's suitable for ANY job you can think of! There is no reason NOT to own this...especially considering the AMAZING PRICE we've got for you today!

It Only Costs HOW Much?

Computers 101

Juny from Nairobi asks:

How do I put a reminder of something important on my PC?

Thanks for the question Juny. Your current system or email client probably already provides this function, but without knowing what you’re using, I can’t address that. However, there are dozens of free and reliable calendars that include reminders. One is VueMinder Calendar Lite; a calendar application laden with useful features, but this article will focus on reminders. However, I recommend taking a thorough look at the available options.

During a straightforward download and installation, you’ll be offered the options shown below. I chose to leave both boxes checked.

kevin_vueminder_1

On my computer, when the application installed, the desktop calendar was placed in an inconvenient location. In that case, click the Move/Resize button to generate a frame from which the calendar can be moved, using the title bar.

kevin_vueminder_2

There are several ways to create an appointment (event). The easiest is to click the New Event button.

kevin_vueminder_3

This will bring up the Event window. For the taskbar reminder displayed below, check the Show a desktop alert box at the left. You can also add a voice reminder by clicking the radio button in the center. Click the Preview button at the right and, if it’s what you want, click Save and Close in the upper left.

kevin_vueminder_8

If you check Show a popup reminder, one will appear at a prescheduled time. As seen here, it can also be opened, deleted, dismissed, or the snooze can be set for later.

kevin_vueminder_4

To delete a reminder, simply select the reminder and click the Delete button.

kevin_vueminder_5

Everything above was done with the desktop calendar, but the VueMinder Calendar can also be accessed by double-clicking the taskbar icon, although right-clicking it will reveal the options below.

kevin_vueminder_6

Here is a screenshot of the standard interface, with event and reminder items highlighted.

kevin_vueminder_7

Juny, I hope this helps. Thanks again for the question. VueMinder Calendar Lite can be downloaded here.

MS Office

Creating Macros in MS Excel

Microsoft Excel is the one of the most popular spreadsheet programs used worldwide. It has a variety of features such as data storage, creating reports and charts, using mathematical functions, performing statistical analysis, ability to connect to databases, making use of pivot tables, V-lookups etc. One such very useful feature within Microsoft Excel is the ability to make use of “macros”.

What is a Macro?

A macro is a recording of the commands and actions which are used in order to perform a task. Whenever you find that there is a particular task or series of tasks which you perform often, it may make sense to save the sequence of tasks as a macro for reuse later. Thus the applications of Macros to perform frequently occurring repetitive tasks can help free up your time to be spent more productively on doing something else instead.

How to Create Macros

There are two ways of creating macros within Microsoft Excel

1. The first is the Macro Recorder. Excel provides the ability to create macros by creating a recording of the tasks performed by the user. The Macro recorder is usually made use of for simple macros.

2. The second is using the macro editor which is used when complicated macros are required.

The Macro section can be accessed from within the View tab or the Developer tab in the Ribbon in Microsoft Excel.

Tip of the Day

Google Remote Desktop Extension

A remote desktop utility allows you to connect to any computer through a remote desktop connection – as long as both the computers are connected to the internet. There are a good number of scenarios when a remote connection saves the day – following is an example:

You are providing tech support to one of your clients and he needs your help in fixing something.  Sure, you can send all the instructions via an email message, but a remote desktop utility will allow you to use his computer directly from your computer itself. The result is that both you and your client can see his computer screen simultaneously. Additionally, you can completely control the remote computer with your own mouse and keyboard, create files and folders, change Windows settings and do any other possible system task.

A remote desktop connection lets you do everything on the remote computer from your own computer, as if you are operating just another system kept on your table.

Lizzie Marie Cuisine

Welcome to Lizzie Marie Cuisine, a website devoted to eleven year old Chef Lizzie Marie’s adventures in the kitchen. Here you’ll find tips, recipes, and product reviews!

I would start your visit to the site by checking out the About Lizzie Marie section – it is where you can learn all about how Lizzie Marie started cooking and fell in love with creating delicious, healthy food. She started her adventures in the kitchen when she was just three by helping her mom make applesauce!

Then I would head back the main page and just start reading her tips, recipes, and reviews. You’ll find them set up blog style, so all you have to do is scroll down the page and click Older Posts or Newer Posts to navigate back and forth.

I am in love with Lizzie Marie’s recipes! They are filled with fresh and delicious ingredients with easy prep. My favorite so far that I’ve made is the Pea Ravioli. You can find it here! I left out the red pepper flakes because my roommate hates spicy things and they were still delish!

Blue Hen Falls In Autumn

This is one I’ve been trying to bag for awhile – since my film days in fact! See, each time I’d stop to shoot the falls (usually in autumn), I’d end up with VERY little water flow. Instead of the nice robust waterfall you see here, I would typically... (More)
